A State of Madness (Mis 500 Locos) is a beautiful and provocative Caribbean film noir set in 1953. This psychological thriller takes place in the Dominican Republic during the cruel dictatorship of Leonidas Trujillo. After a group of mental patients escape from Nigua Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Antonio Zaglul is appointed the new director of the mental institution. He is ordered to reestablish control and to stop the negative press the facility is generating, but what Dr. Trujillo discovers is that there might be more madness on the outside of the hospital's walls, and that his patients can recover with proper attention and care.
