Similar to For Colored Girls and Promising Young Woman, Once In A Valentine tells the story of Celeste who was sexually assaulted by a stranger on Valentines Day. The attack resulted in her becoming pregnant with her daughter, Aila. Years after the brutal attack by the stranger, Celeste still struggles with PTSD. After persistent urging from her friends and family, Celeste finally breaks out of her shell and meets a seemingly perfect man, Noah. Celeste falls instantly in love with him. Noah's heart is also filled by Celeste, and he proposes after only a few dates. No sooner than Celeste agrees to marry him, she discovers the terrible secret that Noah was in fact the stranger who raped her. Devastated, Celeste must decide how to move forward with the knowledge that her fiancé is her rapist and the father of her child.
