Jon Cassar and Victor Webster Turn Up the Heat in Rio

Agoura Hills, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/04/2015 -- Global Genesis Group has announced that Victor Webster is set as the male lead in the exciting new action comedy series Rio Heat, the first-ever Brazilian-Canadian treaty television co-production, from executive producer Jon Cassar.

The charm and grit of Rio de Janeiro provide the backdrop to each week's case. Rio Heat is described as a cross between Hawaii 5-0, Miami Vice, Magnum PI, and Moonlighting.

The Canadian born Webster, repped by Innovative Artist, is best known for his work on such series as Continuum, Mutant X and Charmed and the feature film franchise The Scorpion King

The 13 episodes in season one will be shot entirely in Brazil. The two-hour pilot, directed by Stephen Campanelli, commences production March 7 in Rio.

Ken Gord, one of Canada's best known and experienced television producers, is the show co-creator, writer, and executive producer. Dean Bornstein is co-creator and executive producer. Executive producers Antonio de Andrade, Raul Geyer Aguinara, and Eduardo Villela head up Filmes do Serro, the Brazilian co-producer.

Rio Heat executive producer Cassar will direct multiple episodes. Cassar is an Emmy Award winning executive producer and director of Fox's Emmy and Golden Globe-winning drama 24 (seven seasons), executive producer of the series La Femme Nikita, DGA award-winner for The Kennedys miniseries, and executive producer and director of the Terra Nova series with Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin.

Campanelli just wrapped the theatrical feature Momentum, starring Olga Kurylenko and Morgan Freeman. He has worked with Clint Eastwood for the past 15 years on American Sniper, J. Edgar, Invictus, and Million Dollar Baby among other films.

The pilot two-hour Rio Heat film will be launched theatrically by 20th Century Fox Brazil in multiple Latin American countries, starting with Brazil and Mexico. Fox Pay-TV Latin America has licensed the pay TV window in Latin America for the first 13 episodes
